Good time to evaluate the government's performance after 7 years of action packed drama and culminating in the disaster of the century for the entire world. I would have expected a mention of Kashmir, CAA and the courageous face off with China. But I guess the author decides the length of the article. The media is generally driven by their own priorities and it may not necessarily be the pursuit of truth. However, the NDA prior to 2014 raised a lot of doubts about the integrity of the ruling coalition government and came to power, aided by the movement launched by Anna Hazare. But so far the convictions have not happened. In order to regain the full confidence of the masses, it is time that the guilty should be brought to book; failing which the jibes of 15 lacs being credited to each bank account etc will continue to be made. The judicial process cannot go on for ever. The stupid utterances of cow loving politicians has to also stop. Mistakes are made by persons who are trying to do something and as long as the integrity is in tact, the nation will continue to support Narendra Modi.

Thank you Gautam for your informed response. Agree that I omitted more than I covered. Like TCA, who I quote, says lots has been done. The choice of topics is indeed subjective. And thank you for flagging intemperate remarks. Won't create the basis fit a much needed dialogue. Look forward to your inputs.

Anil, Both the videos were excellent !

On the NDA, one big cause of concern has been the relentless pursuit to maximize tax collections by hounding businesses for past deeds. Businesses are like fish in water, you cannot single out the fish , when the entire water was contaminated (we know how things worked earlier).

Instead of creating a big trust deficit with businesses, if the government had focused on tax compliance going forward, it would have put the economy in a much higher gear, and we would have got positive momentum with many businesses willingly turning the leaf to more compliance.

On balance, such a big mandate could have been better used to structurally grow the economy (which has long lasting impact) rather than to make tax collections more efficient (which will dissipate once the government changes)

Good point Nimesh. Guess the bad fish drew too much attention. To be fair to the govt they did lower rates etc. But India Inc is wrestling with its own demons. And the past weighs heavily on both. Structural change will always face resistance. Thank you due reading and writing in. 😊

And thank you Nimesh and Srikanth for flagging an error in my note today. The estimated number of vulnerable people is 800 million and NOT 800 million households. The error is regretted.

Dear Anil, first of all thanks for sharing the interesting video Currency of Trust by Rachel Botswan . Her best line was " money is the currency of transaction, but trust is the currency of interaction ". As she pointed out trust is subjective and it depends who all are willing to take the trust leap ?

Are we willing to trust the Modi govt to be able to come out of the present mess of falling Aggregate demand, shrinking middle class , low savings, high unemployment, increase in urban and rural poverty , low GDP growth rate , poor health facilities etc???

The dream of a 5 trillion economy by 2024_25 seems impossible to acheive.

But I trust our Govt and the leadership despite the flaws and the problems. The inflation rate (CPI rural plus urban) throughout since 2014 has on an average been around 4.8% which is within the targeted inflation rate set by RBI.itvwas around 7.5% in 2014.our foreign exchange reserves have increased from $315 billion in 2014 to nearly 600 billion at present.ROad construction and other infrastructure facities are increasing at faster rate.these are crucial for long term growth.power generation has increased to 1280 billion units.as you have shown in the bar diagram tap water, banking ,toilets, LPG and rural electrification have all increased.modi govt acheived an open defecation free status which was not done in 67 years since independence. Sensex is also high.

But we cannot deny GDP growth is very low. The govt needs to focus on growth policies , agri exports , poor farmers and agricultural workers, make MSME profitable, improve health and agri infrastructure in rural areas and many more improvements.

The short story gives a strong positive message where there is a will , there is a way !! So the power of social media gives a powerful lesson to us.

The beautiful champa , bougenvilla and Rangoon creeper( madhumalti vine) is blooming with flowers in this hot weather so India will also emerge a winner after this Covid gloom.!!
