Very interesting and informative article.you have analysed the current situation so well and covered all aspects of the impact of the unfortunate war situation!!
Israelis and the whole world was shocked to see the brutality of the mindless attack launched by the Hamas. There was simply no justification for slaughtering so many innocent people including children. Naturally Israel was bound to retaliate. Now it needs to be seen how many other countries take sides and jump into the fray.
What happened was inhuman and unpardonable. The aftermath is going to be devastating as well. No doubt, the geopolitical risks have heightened. No country knows for sure what the next upheaval is going to be. One imagined that Covid was one of the worst experiences in a lifetime but there never seems to be an end to our miseries. We are literally rolling from one upheaval to another. The world economy is bound to feel the impact. You have mentioned concerns regarding climate change but honestly no one seems to care. We seem to be living in a world where human lives have no value. Who cares about the earth?
Thank you for your thoughts. Agree with you. A terrorist attack has to be universally condemned. No one can ever claim otherwise--even geography, like it happened on 9/11, is no insulation from this deadly virus.
Unfortunately the global response has got caught up in real politik. Fear for the outcome. The fact that the US President has landed in Israel signals that the US is worried about the fallout. Fingers crossed.
Analysis highlights worrying global situation in view of emergent geopolitics and it’s likely economic impact !
Compliments to you for your deep understanding of the situation .
In recent years the Indian economy has acquired miraculous inherent flexibility which gets manifested in better economic performance than the rest of the world !
Thank you so much for your kind words of appreciation.
True, India has exhibited remarkable resilience in the face of seemingly insurmountable odds. However, a deteriorating global situation does not augur well for the world in general, including India.
Hopefully sense prevails and the world pulls back from the brink.
This article Anil, is like a bugle being sounded before the battle. Unfortunately, the modern battles have far reaching damaging ramifications, which are sometimes irreparable. However, the current situation in Gaza and Israel was the most unexpected. Starting with internal strife in some countries of South America and Africa, the sanctions on oil producing countries like Venezuala, Libya and Iran, the building of disproportionate arsenals by North Korea and Tehran, territorial ambitions of Russia and China; it is a war like situation all over the world. The two top super powers are only awaiting for the right opportunity to weaken each other and an imminent confrontation is a foregone conclusion; only the level of conflict is a matter of conjecture. It has been observed that countries adopting an approach to influence with military domination, have not prospered. India and China have so far been cautious and any conflict will weaken both the countries. India has done the right thing by building border infrastructure and procurement of deterrent defense systems and equipment to discourage the enemies. The make in India is also a visionary endeavor. With so many conflicts and wars going on in the world, one wonders what is the effect of this on climate change ? Always a pleasure to read your Monday write up Anil.
You are absolutely right. The new era of war is less of direct confrontation and instead a game of attrition--often through surrogates like terrorists and mercenaries. I am afraid the world is going to pay a price for the irresponsible behaviour of the super powers in their pursuit of global domination. At present, India should stay the course on fixing the long ignored plumbing within the country and ensure no one is left behind--like it happened for most of the last seven decades.
1. Once again, a deeply analytical and informative piece from Anil on an issue where we all can identify, analyze but hardly strategize to mitigate risks arising from it. India cannot do much in the short to medium term if oil prices hit through the roof due to war, supply chain bottle necks etc. 2. On the issue of Gaza- Hamas is a terrorist organization but even after such an inhuman attack on Israel last wee, there is no international call to eliminate Hamas! On the contrary, leaders from a few countries are meeting Hams leadership in Doha! No one said- let Hamas in Gaza surrender to Israel or International Forces under UN and let ordinary Palestinians be free of the Hamas control. But Israel hitting at Gaza now is the same idiotic approach of USA destroying entire Iraq or Libya to kill one man at the top! No one has any issue with the just solution of Palestinian issue but how can Hamas be allowed its terrorist activities? Sad for the ordinary people of Gaza to have born there and live in such times!! Hope sanity prevails, human lives saved and terrorism in any form is eradicated. 3. Anyway, back to India- we need to be ready for various bad news for sometime. Modi will find it difficult to balance out various forces affecting economy, national as well as internal security threats till May 2024. But we can trust Modi to deliver!!
Thank you for your thoughts and kind words of appreciation.
I am not surprised at the global response. In a fiercely binary world, this is to be expected. The tragedy is that those creating trouble--like Pakistan has done for the last seven decades--get a pass. Terrorism in all forms have to be condemned. Unfortunately the US learnt it the hard way, when terrorists struck the country on 9/11. Till then they had assumed that geography was a buffer and that India's rants were to be ignored.
Agree with you. Hope sanity prevails, both in the world and India. There are so many pressing priorities besides territorial gains. Climate change is for real. Time we all woke up and smelt the coffee.
