Our digital " Taj Mahal" is a matter of pride. Brick by brick, every Government has supported the creation of this beautiful edifice. Today, we all are proud of it even though many of us were doubters.

While this makes a case of economic inclusion, I fail to see the link to democracy. If large media and institutions do not retain their independence, democracy will suffer, with or without the Aadhar stack. All technologies can be a boon or a bane depending upon the intent of the controller.

Yes, India has a lot to offer to the world. And, also, we have a lot to learn from. Jai Hind.

Dear Arvind,

Thank you for your thoughts.

You are right, this is the outcome of initiatives that began with the launch of Aadhaar. And as you know the idea was seeded under the NDA led by Atal Bihari Vajpayee, executed by UPA led by Manmohan Singh and accelerated under NDA led by Narendra Modi. So there is bipartisan political consensus built into it.

Afraid I have to disagree with you on your observation that democracy is under siege in India. Really have no idea where this narrative about media being curbed gains ground. Please pick up any newspaper at random and see the extreme remarks being made about the incumbent regime. If indeed what you say is true then they would have shut down by now.

Further, no regime likes negative press. Whether it be NDA or UPA. It is only natural. But that does not mean that as a media we have to cow down. Of course not. It is an occupational hazard to deal with intimidation from all kinds of sources. And have faith in our democratic institutions like the courts which will ensure that the guardrails are adhered to. The system is not perfect by any chance but that does not mean we lose hope.

Look forward to your continued engagement. Such healthy debates are a very important facet of our democracy. The trick should be to expand the middle and thereby shrink the binary discourse.

India assuming Presidency of G20, for one year, from 1st December, '22, comes at an opportune moment, considering the ramifications of the political and economic situation globally. By showcasing it's applications and resultant advantages, India can offer to build digital highways and infrastructure, for many nations who would trust this country to do a fair job, without some kind of ulterior aim. What the world is realizing about India is that the country does not have any expansionist agenda and can be trusted. Your article Anil is highlighting this golden opportunity for the nation to be amongst the world's leading countries. Looking forward to your article next Monday. Thank you 😊

Dear Gautam,

Thank you for your thoughts. You have explained the idea so well. Your are spot on. Unlike say China or the US, India has no mercantilist intent. The world desperately needs a new way to bond. Hopefully the digital highways will provide that opportunity.
